PROFESSIONAL MENTORING
St. Martins trained Johnny Hardstaff has worked professionally in the creative arts for almost 30 years (biography). During that time he has also taught concept-led film, video, animation, advertising and graphic communication at some of the UK’s leading art institutions. He has been a Guest Lecturer (Royal College of Art, CSM, LCC and many more), a Visiting Lecturer (Manchester School of Art, Chelsea College of Arts), an Associate Lecturer (Camberwell College of Arts) and a full-time academic (LUSAD). Johnny has also undertaken training in psychotherapeutic counselling.
Each year Johnny professionally mentors diverse creative individuals (19+) at varying stages of their career, whether students just setting out, those looking to bypass the established higher education system entirely, professionals seeking to rethink their practice or more mature individuals wanting to recharge or change direction entirely. The areas most regularly touched on are ideation (how to have great ideas), critical judgment (recognising great ideas when you have them), innovation and originality, individuality, cultural knowledge, career trajectory, career sustainability and mindset.
Mentoring occurs largely online as hourly one-on-one sessions and can be taken on an ad-hoc or structured basis as desired.
